Nea Peramos, Kavala, Greece
While my friends and their families were enjoying Euro tours and road trips around the US, I grew up visiting my Yiayia and Pappou in Nea Peramos every other summer or as frequently as possible. My sisters and I grew up hanging out with our cousins (who conveniently happen to be the same age as us) and all of their friends, so going back now not only means seeing our loved ones but also our parea. Obviously, a lot of our time is spent lounging on beaches or enjoying the nightlife, and with that comes a lot of food and a lot of freddo espresso. Our little village may be small, and some people may think of it as a “xorio” but it’s our xorio and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
