7 Ways to Maintain Healthy Hair
When you are spending *hundreds* investing in your hair, making it the perfect color and style, it’s what happens AFTER you leave the salon that is going to make the biggest impact on your hair health. Here are some things Bianca, CEO of Hairthrone salon on the lower east side and expert colorist shared with her clients on how to maintain their beautiful color while keeping their hair healthy!
1. Quit Over-washing
Try to limit to three washes a week. When you wash your hair every day it strips away the natural oils and proteins that you need to keep your hair and scalp healthy.
2. Protection is KEY.
Before ever applying heat to your hair make sure to use a heat protector to shield against damage from heating tools. Every single time, you should be applying a protective product first! (Keep in mind the UV-rays from the sun)
3. Are You Trimming?
Split ends are inevitable. To maintain hair growth, book an appointment with your stylist to get them snipped off (add a conditioning treatment for a nice day of hair care)!
4. Invest in Good Tools!
Think of your hair like your skin - what you put on it will affect it. Investing in good quality products and tools will keep hair looking and feeling healthy and strong. Although the price tags might be heftier, good tools will last forever if they're looked after!
Pro tip: Keep your brushes clean and free of dead hair, oil and product build-up by washing them in a mixture of baking soda and warm water once a month.
5. Condition.Condition.Condition.
Good conditioner is also crucial when it comes to any hair type. Skip applying it near your roots & try distributing the conditioner through your hair with a wide-tooth comb.
Pro tip: Before heading to your workout wet your hair and add some conditioner (mid-length). After your workout rinse out the conditioner and you’ll be left with shiny, hydrated hair.
6. Vitamins.
Just as vitamins are helpful for your body, they are also important for your hair! Invest in vitamins to promote great hair growth and health.
7. Do What’s Best for YOUR Hair!
Fine Hair: Be careful when it comes to anything containing an oil like argan, coconut, or olive. Too much oil will make your hair heavy. Aloe oil is a great alternative!
Thick Hair: Thicker hair needs more hydration. Invest in products that are moisture balancing to meet the needs of the drier ends and newer roots.
Follow these golden rules to keep your hair healthy all year round!
